Tests with Solarflare® Communications occupy the 10GBASE-T-Tauglichkeit by three Siemon® copper cable systems

Siemon 10G of products (openPR) - Frankfurt, 1 February 2007 - tests, which were accomplished recently by Solarflare® Communications, prove that the copper cable systems 10G 6A™ UTP, 10G 6A F/UTP and Category 7/Class F TERA® von Siemon fulfill or even exceed all 10GBASE-T performance parameter after the IEEE standard 802.3an-2006 ratified in the meantime.

In the testing facility of Solarflare in the California Irvine the three Siemon Kabelsysteme were tested individually. Using the IEEE 802.3an-3006-konformen 10GBASE-T 10Xpress™ PHY products of Solarflare took place all tests with channel lengths from 100 m and on the basis of a Worst Case configuration from ‚Six Around One' (6A1) for the determination of the foreign crosstalk (Alien CROSS talc). The 10GBASE-T-Standard requires that conformal PHY products make the enterprise on this for 100 m possible long Worst Case channel. The 6A1-Konfiguration simulates thereby conceivablly most unfavorable Alien Crosstalk conditions, because six disturbing cables are here closely arranged around a seventh cable, which the disturbances affect. On each channel bi-directional Ethernet Traffic with the full data transmission rate is transferred by 10 GBit/s. Not less than fourteen 10GBASE-T-konforme Solarflare PHY maps was necessary, in order to simulate these high-loading site conditions (seven PHY units at each end of the 6A1-Konfiguration).

Even on these fastidious Worst Case conditions the 10G 6A UTP, 10G 6A F/UTP and TERA complete solutions of Siemon could keep the strict bit error rates (BER), demanded by the 802.3an-Standard for 10-GBit/s. The TERA S/FTP channel proved as particularly efficiently compared with a typical Category 6A UTP channel. The TERA channel put an average signal signal-to-noise ratio of 30,2 railways to the day - those are approx. 6 railways more than with a typical Category 6A UTP channel.

With this tests in particular the commercial fitness of the 10GBASE-T-Technik is occupied, because apart from the general adherence to all requirements of the IEEE standard 802.3an the interoperability of the 10-GBit/s-Elektronik von Solarflare with the following Kabelkonstruktionen is proven in the framework by IEEE 802.3an: Category 6A UTP, Category 6A F/UTP (protected) and Category 7 S/FTP (protected), all with a channel length of 100 meters. Both enterprises will accomplish in the future tests with Category of 6 UTP cables over 55 meters.

„At the results, which Solarflare determined, the abilities of Siemon within the range of the research and the Design, handing far, clearly “, stresses Daniel J. Mullin, director of the Siemon Labs™, the F&E branch of Siemon. „In addition to our 10G 6A UTP solution confirms the verification of the systems 10G 6A F/UTP and TERA the market suitability of protected systems. We have to do it therefore here with an impressive confirmation for the know-how of Siemon and for the investments, which the enterprise transacted over years into protected systems. “

Bruce Tolley, Vice President OF marketing with Solarflare, adds: „The successful examination of the three copper cable systems of Siemon smooths the way for the cost effective conversion of many data centers and networks in enterprises to efficient 10-GBit-Ethernet-Technik and represents thereby an important contribution for the promotion of the market acceptance of this crucial technology. “

Solarflare is the first enterprise, which demonstrated standard-conformal 10GBASE-T-Produkte for 100 m transmission distance publicly and to customers supplied with samples. These customers presuppose a range of 100 meters with their cable systems and expect the support of the 10GBASE-T-Standards and interoperability with this standard. The Solarflare products a radical examine and submitted validating process, in order to ensure the 10GBASE-T-Konformität and the suitability for 100 m transmission distance. The high working reliability of the 10Xpress-Lösung over this distance becomes descriptive clear to the 6A1-Tests with Siemon.

Further information about the comprehensive number of complete 10GBASE-T-konformer solutions of Siemon, under it 10G 6A UTP, 10G 6A F/UTP and the industrialfar most efficient and safest copper cable solution Category 7 TERA, finds you in the Internet under www.siemon.com/e-catalog.
