One of my bases was a book, which me as a boy of approximately 10 years fell into the hands and me into the world of the bees, ants and introduced termites. Now, more as 25 years later, I had again such an experience than the new book by Professor Dr. Jürgen Tautz and Helga welfare man, Beegroup peppering castle, with which title “phenomenon honey bee” landed on my desk. The book avowedly as the xten mark the beekeeping or does not introduce it to these, is rather exclusively occupied with the honey bee as a phenomenon in nature. And this phenomenon has it in itself. Arranged into ten chapters, the book explains the honey bee as a success model of the evolution, which developed with characteristics like it otherwise only from the mammals admits is. It represents also for the non--biologist and non--beekeeper in easily comprehensible way, how the bee in the evolution developed, how in the superorganism Bien characteristics are, which there are not with the single bee and which (not only imkerliche) have meaning these characteristics.
