UV lamps produce ozone and clean exhaust air of fats and smells

Heraeus Noblelight shows on the fair ISH/Aircontec of 6. to 10. March 2007 in Frankfurt solutions with ultraviolet light for the air treatment. An interesting application is the use of ozone-producing UV lamps in kitchen exhaust air caps. The UV-RADIATION prevented there fat deposits, dams the fire risk and saves cleaning costs. UV-RADIATION is a pollution free and economic alternative to chemical procedures. In the accredited measuring laboratory of Heraeus Noblelight can be measured the ozone-producing UV-RADIATION of the UV lamps.

There the use of fats and oils in the kitchen leads to deposits in kitchen exhaust air caps and departures and represents high fire risk and a smelling nuisance. The physical method of the UV-RADIATION is an economic and pollution free alternative to the cost-intensive, manual cleaning of the meals and to the filter exchange. By the employment of special Heraeus UV lamps from the atmospheric oxygen of the ambient air within the kitchen hood ozone is produced. In addition the emitted radiation of the wavelength 185 Nm is used. The longer-wave radiation with 254 Nm photolysiert ozone to lively oxygen, which oxidizes the langkettigen molecules. Organic materials, like fats and aromatics are coldly burned continuously „“and diminished. The exhaust air duct and the exhaust air cap remain grease-free, those for fire risk clearly reduced and kitchen smells in the exhaust air will become eliminated. The ozone-producing UV lamps of Heraeus are even high performance at high exhaust air temperatures over a grill of up to 90°C very. The singular Heraeus Longlife coating of the lamp pipes makes a long life span for the UV lamp possible. The Heraeus Longlife coating is also for the very short-wave ozon¬erzeugende UV-RADIATION of the wavelength 185 Nm transparency. The life span of the lamps extends also for this wavelength coverage clearly in relation to conventional technologies.

Measurement of the ozone-producing radiation in the Heraeus laboratory
UV-RADIATION of the wavelength 185 Nm is already absorbed in 30 cm distance from the lamp of the ambient air completely. Precise measurements are to be accomplished only on vacuum conditions. The Heraeus measuring laboratory has a vacuum chamber, in which the strongly sauerstoff¬absorbierende 185 Nm radiation can be detected completely and troublefree. The Design of the UV lamp can be adapted optimally on the customer requirements: The achievement-dependent efficiency is evaluated, the best mode of operation is defined and the output is optimized. Attempts in the wind tunnel of the Heraeus laboratory make possible to observe the thermal behavior the lamp and to optimize the lamp on the operating temperature. With an ozone measuring instrument the produced ozone concentration can be examined. The lamp is co-ordinated with the plant and application.

Heraeus Noblelight is manufacturer of special sources of light and shows to the ISH/Aircontec of 6. to 10. March 2007 in Frankfurt/Main a broad pallet from u.v.lights to the air oxidation and air disinfection.
